In July 2012, in collaboration with Cornish artist Hannah Whale, Eileen Long embarked on a photographic portrayal of women recovering from breast cancer surgery. The aims of the project were to raise awareness of the need for post surgery support and to acknowledge the altered body image which women have to embrace after surgery.
The project comprised of two components. A group photograph taken in Carnglaze Caverns, a former slate mine in Cornwall and individual portrait of each woman, many of whom chose to be photographed showing their post surgery scars.
The resulting images are a deeply personal portrayal which reflect the fortitude and inner beauty of every woman.
In June 2013 a book entitled 'Too Many Women' was published and the images were exhibited in the Old Truman Brewery in London.
